Choreography 365: Day 59 - Shadows

I have found myself in an interesting position; I am a day ahead of myself.
This is a good thing though as in two days time we will be flying home from Germany so it may get a bit tricky to film.
Today's video was filmed yesterday in the park in Dresden.  Daisy and I did some of the moves we did in the garden the other day but played with the shadows in the sun.
We have also done some more shadows work today at an art exhibition but you will have to wait until tomorrow to see it!  See you then :)

Music = Sunny Side of the Street by Louis Armstrong.

Choreography 365: Day 58 - Daisy and Me

After finally getting Skype to work I spoke to Daisy's mum who was happy for the video to be used; so here it is.  I have been having a great time in Dresden with my family doing tourist things and playing with my cousin Daisy.

Today we painted some stones that she had picked as place markers for our dinner table, made friendship bracelets, created two fan boats for Luna's boat a day project (which was finished today) and went shopping in the new town.

Choreography 365: Day 57 - Suspended Arms

After receiving a lovely comment from my fellow 365er Luna yesterday, about how some of the movements from yesterdays video looked like I was a puppet, I decided to play with this idea further.

I was hoping to do a little dance on a boat today as a tribute to the fact that Luna is about to finish her 365 project but this was not possible; so I ended up dancing in the bathroom.

Choreography 365: Day 56 - Natural Framings

I spent a lot of my day today swimming, playing, paddling a swan pedalo with my 7 year old cousin Daisy; so naturally we ended up putting a little piece of dancing together.

I am waiting on permission from Daisy's parents (who aren't on holiday with us) to allow it to be posted online but in the meantime here is a short piece inspired by the skipping and jumping we were doing, but also using more natural frames.

Hopefully you will see Daisy and I messing around tomorrow :)

Choreography 365: Day 55 - Optical Opera

I felt like a proper tourist today as we wandered along the Elbe and into the Altstadt (Old Town) in the scorching 40 degrees!

There were some local opera singers performing nearby which provided a nice soundtrack and my lovely mummy filmed me in front of one of the walls of the Residenz Palast.

The geometrically painted wall together with my stripy dress and the interesting filming create a strange optical effect.  Hoping to work more on this in the future.

Choreography 365: day 54 - Wings

After two flights and a swim in an old quarry where we were joined by a couple of swans; today's choreography is inspired by their common theme: Wings.  Just about to sit down to a lovely home cooked meal and then bed before another day full of holiday adventure fun tomorrow :)

Choreography 365: Day 53 - Poi

I spent yesterday traveling from Bristol to my Nan's in Harlow so no access to internet.

I am currently sitting in Koln/Bonn airport in Germany waiting for our connecting flight to Dresden.

This is a video I put together yesterday of a play with my poi in the park on Sunday.

I thought it would be interesting to reverse the footage to see if my forward and reverse weave are different.  Can you tell?

Choreography 365: Day 52 - Cards

I was going to give myself an easy evening by using one of my 'spare' videos from the weekend but upon re-realizing that today was day 52 I just had to do something with a pack of cards.

I must thank Genie for getting in on the crazy-card-trowing-dancing-to-Skrillex-session in her room and then filming while I chuck some more around.  Thanks Genie.

There was so much more footage but I have to be up early and off to London so I cut it short, I think I would have been up til about 3am otherwise.

Night all :)

Choreography 365: Day 51 - Natural Frame

I wanted to work more with using the environment of the shoot as the frame, as I have done so in some of the last few videos.

Maybe I will do some more of these while in Germany, I'm sure to find some interesting locations to use as inspiration and as frames.  Three days to go :)

Choreography 365: Day 50 - More Park Fun

I had my exam this morning (ISTD Intermediate Classical Ballet), I count that as actually doing some dance today :)

Obviously I was not able to record any of it so I'm using one of my extras from yesterdays park mission.  Hope you like :)

Choreography 365: Day 49 - At the Park

For my well earned day off today we headed to Stoke Park, Bristol for a game of ultimate Frisbee and a rest in the quite deserted park.  I managed to get three different videos done today which means I have two spare for difficult days.  I may have to use one or both next week during my trip to Germany to see family but hopefully there will be lots of opportunities to create new and exciting things over there.

Choreography 365: Day 47 - Webbs Brake

I found another shady area to dance in today which is called Webbs Brake.

It's my last day at Wild Place tomorrow so I'm hoping there will be a chance to dance with some of the animals in the background, maybe Lemurs or Okapi :)

Choreography 365: Day 46 - Secret Hideaway

It was another scorcher today so I hunted out some shade to dance in.

I found an area called the Secret Hideaway which is being developed by the staff at Bristol Zoo.

There are some really lovely areas at The Wild Place Project and everything is coming along nicely for the opening on Monday.

Choreography 365: Day 45 - Waiting

Another very long day working on my own today so the only time I had to film, before the sun went down, was in the 4 minutes I had to wait for the bus.

I actually quite like the effect of the light, the cars and the tired dancing.

Hope you do too.  Night all :)

Choreography 365: Day 44 - Washing Line 2

... well i had a lot of washing to get through today so played with some more ideas this afternoon.

Oh and our kitchen is super shiny :)

Choreography 365: Day 43 - Washing Line

I managed to wangle a day off today to catch up on housework and sleep (there's a high chance I'll end up working Sunday so I didn't relish the idea of a 7 day week).  Did lots of the sleeping last night so this is yesterdays.  I hope you will forgive me.  First step to a tidy house today is taking in Genie's washing; and of course I dance while doing such things!

I was given the idea by the lovely Hannah on Sunday while helping bring her washing in.  Hannah, we should do one together at some point as the synchronized shaking and folding was fun.

Choreography 365: Day 42 - PLU 7

I think this will be the final installment of my dance to Peace, Love and Understanding by A Perfect Circle, for now anyway.

It was quite dark tonight by the time I got round to filming so I had to play with the exposure settings so that the dance was actually visible, that and a little purple tint.

Choreography 365: Day 41 - PLU 6

Just added a little extra to my weekly project today.

Back in Midsomer Norton this weekend so hopefully find another beautiful place to dance in tomorrow.

See you then :)

Choreography 365: Day 40 - Stretching Needed

As I mentioned a couple of days ago I would probably have a break in the middle of choreographing to Peace, Love and Understanding.  Here is that break.  I really needed a good stretching session after working very long days and dancing everyday for 40 now.  I actually spent about 15 minutes stretching but my faithful! camera decided that 8 minutes filming was enough: I think it's tired too.  So here is the 8 minutes of footage sped up to about 8 times as fast.  Any slower and you would have got bored.

Music = Fly by Ludovico Einaudi

Choreography 365: Day 39 - Peace, Love and Understanding 5

Another very long day today including a ballet class so was able to film in the studio.
Unfortunately a lot of the movement travels quite a bit so I had to film some bits separately.

Now off for some much needed sleep.

See you tomorrow :)

Choreography 365: Day 38 - Peace, Love and Understanding 4

Definitely just a 'mark' today after working a 13 hour shift and the directions need work, but that's a job for tomorrow.  But I did manage to change the bits I wasn't happy with yesterday and add on most of the additional stuff originally from day 28.

I have a shorter day at work tomorrow and then ballet in the evening so hopefully I will be able to find a studio to do the whole dance so far in and add more!

Choreography 365: Day 37 - Peace, Love and Understanding 3

Another very hot day on site today so I'm not 100% happy with the new work on this as it was hard going to think, but I will revisit it tomorrow.  I also worked on putting the material from Day 28 to the instrumental section; which I started dancing at the end of the video.  I really was too hot to do any more dancing today even in the dappled sunlight but it will be added on tomorrow.  See you then :)

Choreography 365: Day 35 & 36 - Peace, Love and Understanding 1 & 2

OK so my first fail day yesterday due to heat and distraction, but I made up for it with two today!

I have decided to embark on a mini week-long project to Peace, Love and Understanding by A Perfect Circle.  I am working six days this week but will have time during the day on site to choreograph.  I am hoping that the piece will progress and develop in both quantity and quality, as you would from spending a week on the same thing!  Also I may give myself a 'day-off' as it were and do something completely different in the middle of the week to change up the way I work, but we'll see.

Day '35' was filmed earlier today on site after choreographing both in my head and getting up by the desk and trying things out.

Day 36 was filmed after a 2 hour ballet class so I am a little red and tired in this one.  I put together the additional movement material in this one both on the bus to class and shortly before filming.

I'll have another look at it again tomorrow and see where I go from there :)

Choreography 365: Day 34 - On Site

It was my second day on site today at Bristol Zoo's Wild Place, which opens on 22nd July.
I found a couple of out-of-the-way places in my lunch break.  I have a feeling that you will be seeing a lot of the site over the next two weeks.

There's still a lot of construction going on on site, hence the hi-vis and steel toe capped boots.

Some of the movement material today is a development of material used in day 23 and probably others as well.
I expect that a lot of the movement I generate and work on over the next two weeks will be a further development of this as I will be very busy with work and in a similar space.

Although saying that the site is quite varied and my throw up some surprises. Watch this space!

Choreography 365: Day 33 - New Pointe Shoes

I had a long first day at work in the heat today so couldn't get to class tonight, but I did get round to sewing the ribbons on my new pointe shoes.

They are Sonata by Bloch in case you were wondering!

As I did a video with an old pair, I thought it only fitting that the new pair should get one too; so here is their first wearing.

A rather quickly thrown together video to High Heels by Ludovico Einaudi.

And now I'm off to bed, see you tomorrow :)

Choreography 365: Day 32 - In The Studio

A very dance related day today.  Luna, Taz and I had a chat with Paulette at Ujima Radio about our 365 projects.  You can listen to it here.  (The last 15 minutes of the 12pm-1pm segment and the first 15 minutes of the 1pm-2pm segment)

This evening I went to a ballet class and also got my new pointe shoes, just need to sew the ribbons on and they'll be ready for class tomorrow :)

After class I found an empty studio.
A very balletic improvisation today inspired by work in class.

Dave, Genie and I had fun with choosing the music for the video today as I just improvised in silence.  We made a game out of it by adding different tracks to the video clips to see what would work.

The track we chose is Superheros by Daft Punk.  Although there were some other ones which worked quite well and this process has given me some music ideas for the future.  Thanks guys :)

Choreography 365: Day 31 - At The Zoo

I had to put my plan to go to the graveyard on hold today as I had an unexpected interview at the zoo.  So how could I pass up filming in the zoo, as I had a free afternoon to see all the animals :)

I found a quite place in the underwater seal viewing area to film with no one around but unfortunately the seals didn't want to make an appearance either; I think they were being fed!

Me, Taz and Luna are going on the radio to talk about Our 365 Adventures tomorrow. So listen out for us on Ujima Radio Bristol at 12.45 A great way to mark the beginning of my second month :)
